The Persian - 2022



The stone that became The Persian had been standing in the woods among my stock of potential carving subjects for a decade, long enough to sport some lichen and a patina of age, which are preserved in the cap and tassel.



The Persian - About 22 inches tall & 40 lbs



The Persian on display for the 2023 Member's Exhibit at the Brush Gallery in Lowell, with the sculptor.



Roughing in, getting the basic form.



This piece of bedrock is narrow, making for a slim figurehead.



Shaping the form with angle grinder.



Further refinement & cutting in the ruffled collar. I like the texture of the original stone for the cap, so will leave it as is.



Ready for clean-up.



After washing the stone dust off & applying a coat of stone sealer.



The back of the cap has a long tassel.
